Florida hit by new tropical threat as forecasters sound alarm over Trump hurricane prediction cuts

Meteorologists are closely monitoring a similar pattern to early July that could become the next round of tropical development in the Atlantic basin.

Experts have marked an area along the southeastern coast of the United States, while a second area north of Bermuda could also generate tropical activity, according to AccuWeather forecasters. Early in the hurricane season, it's common for tropical depressions to form close to Central America, the Caribbean, and the waters adjacent to the southern US.
 
Earlier this month, the same area forecasters are monitoring is where Tropical Storm Chantal formed. Chantal initially became the third tropical depression of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season on Independence Day and then strengthened into a tropical storm the next week.

I'm curious as to what the number of forecasters has to do with tropical storm formation?  In 1976 coming home from SE Asia our battle group encountered an uncharted typhoon that Pearl Harbor knew nothing about.  That was then.  It wouldn't happen today because of all the technology advancements.  Those advancements make all the people monitoring such then unneeded now.

Give me radar, track over time, and I can pretty much guess when it's going to storm.

Intensity is usually a question of the altitude of the cell tops, so, you know what to look for.

'Hooks' developing in the intense parts of the storm often indicate tornadic activity.

Most folks can learn what to look for.
