The Trump administration plans to implement a process whereby farmers in Iowa can vouch for hard-working, law-abiding migrant farmworkers who may be facing deportation, so that they can remain in the U.S.

The proposed process was shared by President Donald Trump during an event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on Thursday night, kicking off a year of patriotic celebrations meant to honor the nation’s 250th birthday.

Trump said the new plan will take place in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security and that legislation for the measure is currently being drafted while speaking Thursday evening from Iowa.

“You know, they’ve had people working for them for years. And we’re going to do something … we’re going to sort of put the farmers in charge,” Trump told the crowd of people in attendance. “If a farmer has been with one of these people that worked so hard – they bend over all day, we don’t have too many people that can do that, but they work very hard, and they know him very well, and some of the farmers are literally, you know, they cry when they see this happen – if a farmer is willing to vouch for these people, in some way, Kristie, I think we’re going to have to just say that’s going to be good, right?”

“We don’t want to do [border security] where we take all of the workers off the farms,” Trump added. “We want the farms to do great.”

*"migrant", as in they moved with the harvest, not in the current sense where every abysmally stupid writer on the frigging planet is calling ILLEGAL ALIENS "migrants".

Reasonable idea, but if we want to make America great again, we need to go back to what made it great in the first place:  the Constitution and the Anglo-Saxon legal tradition its framers took for granted.  Congress should pass statutes creating a proper guest-worker program so that the foreign farm workers are properly registered as being here.  We can amnesty illegals currently working on farms into guest-worker status (not into a track to citizenship, just into a status that makes their being here to do what they came to do -- earn money to send home by working on American farms -- something that fits within the rule of law).
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

A typical student costs the community around $18,000 a year. The community gets to bare that burden while the farmer profits from the cheap labor.

It is theft.

There's process to bring seasonal migrant workers. If that's not enough, too bad.

Migrant workers migrated to follow the harvest, which comes at different times at different latitudes. That was the migration part, not storming our borders. Those migrant workers who were not US citizens were supposed to have green cards enabling them to work (and often did around here).

The problem is one of popular nomenclature, allowing the media to refer to illegal aliens as "migrants". (Now, virtually anyone who breaks a sweat who is here illegally can be referred to as a "migrant worker", whether they migrate to keep up with crops ripening or not. That's abuse of the language.)

Something like this needs to be done otherwise this is a slippery slope to indentured servitude.
