Even as talks progress and President Donald Trump says there is hope for a deal, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky made clear he rejects President Donald Trump’s proposal to recognise Russia’s occupation of Crimea as a price of peace, saying the Ukrainian constitution calls for nothing less than absolute victory.

This week, President Donald Trump said in interview with Time Magazine that one of the ultimate outcomes of the war will be that “Crimea will stay with Russia”, and later that a deal was close, with Ukraine and Russia needing now to meet in person in negotiations for the first time to “finish it off”.

Yet the rhetoric coming from Kyiv in recent days is far from complimentary about President Trump’s proposals. An American blueprint for peace in Ukraine was put before combatants this week and quickly rejected as politically impossible by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, who cited the national constitution as making anything but total victory impossible.

Well, Trump's "peace plan" (gag), such as it is, amounts to Ukraine unconditionally surrendering to Russia.  If Zelensky accepted it, then the Ukrainian Parliament would remove him from office and appoint Valerii Zaluzhnyi as his successor, who would immediately disown Trump's "deal" and resume the war.  That simple.

Continue the war for how long, Both Russia and Ukraine are decimating each others population of young  problem with that for Ukraine is that Russia has more and is willing to sacrifice them. How long until someone gives in to his demands for fodder from other countries to die for Ukraine on the battlefield.

Can anyone here imagine during the 1940 Blitz Germany demanding the Brits to withdraw from Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, and Dorset so that those counties could be annexed by Germany and loaded with German troops, all in the name of ending the conflict?  There's no way anyone with a right mind would agree to that.  Yet some here support exactly that when it comes to Russia and Ukraine.

The only thing that Russia understands is leverage. The only real leverage the US has right now beyond knocking the oil price lower is the NATO threat.

Because the West has jacked around with their silly little games all these years we are now in a weak position with little to negotiate with. The reality is that without a carrot and stick we are not going to bring Russia to heel. The carrot is territory and stick is NATO and oil. That's the army we got.

Those that don't get that need to get over the childlike ideas and get back to reality.

Even better, if Russia demands Alaska back, should we give it back to them? I mean it will bring peace and no war.

Why, if as you propose, this iteration of a border dispute in Eastern Europe is as consequential as the German Blitz in 1940 haven't British boots been on the ground for three years?   :pondering:
