Migrant Crossings Through Panama’s Darien Gap Have Fallen by 99 Percent Since Trump Took Office

Migrant crossings through Panama’s Darien Gap have fallen by 99 percent since President Trump took office.

According to data provided by the Department of Homeland Security to The New York Post, a meagre 408 migrants were reported traveling through the Panamanian jungle path in February.

This is a 99 percent decrease on February 2024, when crossings peaked at 37,166.
 
Despite being notoriously treacherous and controlled by criminal cartels, the Darien Gap remains the only overland route to the United States for migrants from South America.
