We had an F- 4 hit the ramp at the end of the flight deck, split in two, half skidded down the flight deck and got caught in the angle for a second or two before taking an eternal bath, and half went straight down in the ocean.  Part of the debris hit a LOX tank and dented it, but didn't puncture it, otherwise I might not be here.  The aircrew punched out with one landing on the flight deck and the other in the ocean and was plucked out within a few seconds by a helo.  The crash and smash crew had fog foam on the flight deck wreckage before it got to the angle.  I used to watch them practice and think we were all dead if a true emergency happened.  But all involved reacted professionally and, except for the plane, were ok.
