Quorum Collapse: Most Texas House Members Skip Work

Texas Scorecard By Brandon Waltens March 28, 2025

Only 65 of the chamber’s 150 members were shown present on Friday.

The Texas House of Representatives was scheduled to meet Friday morning, but business quickly came to a halt after it was revealed that the chamber lacked the quorum necessary to conduct legislative proceedings.

While an initial roll call via the chamber’s electronic voting machines indicated 118 of the 150 House members were present—enough to meet the two-thirds quorum threshold—a verification vote requested by State Rep. Brian Harrison (R–Midlothian) told a different story.

Once the names were read aloud, only 65 members could be verified as present—falling far short of the 100 members required for the House to conduct business.

What a clownshow.
Speaker Burrows has been presiding over the House without a quorum, in violation of state law. Yesterday, he was caught red-handed by Rep. Brian Harrison—falsely counting 40 absent members as present in a brazen attempt to fabricate a quorum.

The abnormal is not the normal just because it is prevalent.

Just more G.W. Bush/Karl Rove BS in the Texas House.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
