Did Schumer and the dems cave?

Things are moving fast. Sometimes you don't have times to look around.

So is the CR going to pass?  Chuck gave the green light?

I think the only blood lost today was when Trump/Johnson/Thune cut Schumer's testicles off.

POTUS needs to spend the next 1-1/2 years promoting what could have happened if the GOP doesn't hold the House majority.

...The continuing resolution that just passed isn’t some groundbreaking conservative victory—it’s a strategic move that sets the stage for something much bigger—like keeping government spending flat (no major increases), blocking funding for new programs (a huge problem for a party that thrives on expanding government), and giving Republicans the opening to push real budget cuts through reconciliation (something Democrats desperately wanted to avoid)...

Democrats had two choices, and neither one was good:

Option 1: Filibuster the resolution and shut down the government, handing Russ Vought—the OMB director and a fiscal conservative who will take a machete to government spending with a mad grin on his face (probably)—full control over what spending gets prioritized.

Option 2: Pass the CR and keep the government open, but in doing so, legitimize the spending cuts that Republicans have been working toward all along (and, more importantly, legitimizing Elon Musk's work).

They chose the latter, because between letting Vought run wild in a shutdown or dealing with the political fallout of conceding to Republicans, they went with what they saw as the lesser of two evils. But make no mistake—this was a trap, and Chuck Schumer knows it...

...Vought, a key figure in Trump’s first administration, is someone who actually believes in cutting government waste—not as a political talking point, but as a mission. If Democrats had filibustered the CR and let the government shut down this weekend, Vought would have had full authority to decide where the limited funding went And let’s just say, he wouldn’t be prioritizing their pet projects. To put it bluntly...

...If the government had shut down, they wouldn’t just be facing temporary disruptions. They would have been watching permanent spending reductions take place in real-time—without their control. Schumer and company knew they couldn’t allow that to happen, so they gritted their teeth and passed the CR, fully aware that they were handing Republicans the long-term win.

I like the way Mike Johnson, right after the CR passed, immediately put the House on vacation till the end of the month.

Message to Schumer - take it or leave it. There won't be any Senate reconciliation tricks this time.

Excerpt:
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) just took a political beatdown of epic proportions, and his meltdown on MSNBC last night proves it—Trump and the GOP outmaneuvered him, and Schumer’s tantrum is pure gold for conservatives. After Senate Democrats failed to block the House’s clean continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government for six months, Schumer threw in the towel, venting his frustration with a slip-of-the-tongue bombshell

Looks like Chuck here is starting to show more signs of TDS.

All I see are Democrats cussing up a storm on TV & X. I bet they’re hearing their constituents aren’t happy with them.

Schumer: Shutdown Would Let ‘Vicious, Nasty’ Musk and Trump Ruin Democracy

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said Thursday on MSNBC’s “All In” that the repercussions of shutting down the federal government would be worse than voting for the House funding bill.

Schumer apologizes for calling Republicans ‘bastards’
by Elizabeth Crisp - 03/14/25 10:24 AM ET

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) referred to Republicans as “bastards” on live television before quickly apologizing during a heated discussion on MSNBC over his decision to vote in favor of the GOP’s stopgap funding plan to avert a federal shutdown.

Schumer has faced intense pushback on the left this week, with progressives accusing him of capitulating to Republicans — who hold slim majorities in the Senate and House — on a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government through September.

“It’s much, much better not to be in the middle of a shutdown, which could divert people from the No. 1 issue we have against these bastards — sorry, these people — which is not only all these cuts, but they’re ruining democracy,” Schumer said Thursday on MSNBC’s “All In.”

No, they won.  They got a CR at the Pelosi/Biden budget spending levels.

And just think how well Musk and Big Ballz would done unabated and unimpeded with empty governmental offices.  I think the GOP aimed too low.

They didn't pass a full Fiscal Year budget at pre-Covid spending levels.  They continued spending at Pelosi's / Biden's Covid & Inflation Reducation Act levels.

How so?

Hollywood Celebrities Rip Schumer for Caving on GOP Spending Bill: ‘He’s Bought. He’s Gotta Go’

Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is getting ripped from Washington, D.C., to Hollywood after he caved this week and announced he would vote for cloture on the Republicans’ bill to fund the government and avoid a shutdown.

Did it pass?  What was the Tally?  I'm drinking heavily for no reason but still want to be engaged with like minded people....who drink heavily for no Reason.

Never mind.  I saw Democratic Sens. Chuck Schumer, Catherine Cortez Masto, Dick Durbin, John Fetterman, Kirsten Gillibrand, Maggie Hassan, Angus King, Gary Peters, Brian Schatz, and Jeanne Shaheen all voted yes.

Pelosi Backstabs Schumer, Publicly Calls On Democrats To Ignore Him

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has publicly broken ranks with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), calling on Senate Democrats to reject his approach to the latest government funding fight. The move has exposed a deepening rift within Democratic leadership as lawmakers scramble to avoid a potential shutdown.

In a scathing social media post Friday morning, Pelosi denounced the funding proposal that Schumer appeared to be backing, arguing that Democrats must not “buy into this false choice” between a shutdown and what she described as a “devastating assault on the well-being of working families.”

“I salute Leader Hakeem Jeffries for his courageous rejection of this false choice, and I am proud of my colleagues in the House Democratic Caucus for their overwhelming vote against this bill,” Pelosi wrote. “Democratic senators should listen to the women.”

Pelosi’s statement highlighted the leadership of House Appropriations Committee ranking member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Senate Appropriations Chair Patty Murray (D-WA), both of whom have pushed for a four-week stopgap funding extension instead of Schumer’s tentative agreement with Senate Republicans.
