Lutnick’s remarks on a possible recession come as Trump says the U.S. is in a “period of transition.”

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Sunday that Americans should “absolutely not” brace for a recession as President Donald Trump said the U.S. is in a “period of transition” as the administration plans to implement far-reaching reciprocal tariffs on goods from foreign countries.

“There’s going to be no recession in America. ... Global tariffs are going to come down because President Trump has said, ‘You want to charge us 100%? We’re going to charge you 100%,’” Lutnick told NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”

Lutnick argued that Trump plans to “unleash America out to the world” and “grow our economy in a way we’ve never grown before.”

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
Recessions usually follow bouts of inflation, but I do agree with reciprocal agreements on both tariffs and immigration. Whatever you do we do as well.

Tired of all the one-sidedness with these little jackhole countries.

My $.02.....

(1) Recession are normal in the course of business cycles.  We are way over due.
(2) This cycle in particular will be impacted at least on the short term by tariffs.  But if Trump's strategy of using them only for negotiated fair trade settlements.  We actually will come out better for it.
(3) I dare anyone to justify how a 43K DJIA is should be, given the dynamics and the fundamentals of the overall economy,
(4) Me...  I'd like to see a 25-40% correction.  It's called a investment buying opportunity.
(5) If we can resurrect our manufacturing sector, I am guessing that what we saw in '08-'09 will be pretty unlikely.
