CBS News Poll: Overwhelming Majority of Viewers Approve Trump’s Speech

Democrat lawmakers may not have approved of President Donald Trump’s triumphant return to the Capitol, but polling shows their constituents loved it.

CBS News/YouGov survey interviewed a nationally representative sample of speech watchers immediately following Trump’s joint address to Congress, and the numbers will please the poll-mindful president.

The poll shows an astounding 76 percent of Americans viewing the speech approved of Trump’s remarks, with only 23 percent — less than a quarter — disapproving.

Sixty-eight percent of viewers described Trump’s speech as “hopeful,” with a majority also describing it as “presidential,” “inspiring,” “unifying,” and “entertaining.”

A clear majority of Americans watching the speech also said the president spent a lot of time on issues they cared about, the survey found.

Over two-thirds of viewers said Trump has a clear plan to deal with inflation, which began under President Joe Biden. And over three-quarters liked Trump’s plan for waste in government spending as well as immigration and the border.

You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

My take away:

It was a good speech, not his greatest.  He touched on tariffs, but didn't explain them enough.

He did mention, no tax on tips, overtime or SS, but it's not a done deal from what I gathered.

IMHO he appeared tired and weak which I found very concerning as the man is 78 years old.

His e.o.'s are plentiful and abundantly helpful at the border and finding billions of dollars that were grossly misappropriated, but I'm waiting for him to start signing some legislation that will stick.  I think he needs to motivate Congress to act.

I keep in mind that he's just been inaugurated and we've seen some positive changes, but the DEMS will hold steadfast and going against him in hopes of expanding their majority in both Houses in '26.

Of these three, deal with the taxes on Social Security benefits FIRST.

This affects almost everyone in the SS system.

Even if Mr. Trump can't get Congress to agree to a 100% cut immediately, perhaps he could get them to "stretch it out". Say, 60% exempt from taxation year 1, then 75% for year two, 90% year 4 and a 100% exemption for year 5.

Taking away the tax burden will give all SS/taxpayers a good-sized boost in yearly income (from reduction of the taxes they would otherwise pay).

$23.5k of my Social Security equivalent benefit got taxed this year (full amount rcvd was a little shy of $28k).

Take it away, Mr. Trump...
Take it ALL away...!

I got a dog in this hunt.  The tip thing..not so much.  The Overtime thing is ridiculous.

Quote
About 36.6 million Americans watched President Trump live on television on Tuesday night, tuning in for his 100-minute speech to a joint session of Congress — the longest of its kind in the modern era.

Nielsen, the ratings agency, said the live television audience for Mr. Trump’s wide-ranging and often pugilistic address was up 13 percent from former President Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s final State of the Union speech a year ago.

We took a hit on our SS this year as well this year.  I agree -- takes away the tax on SS, tips and OT.
