Leavitt: ‘We Want the Keystone XL Pipeline Built’, Trump’s ‘Inviting Them Back’

Ian Hanchett 25 Feb 2025

On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that President Donald Trump is inviting the company that was building the Keystone XL pipeline before former President Joe Biden killed the project back and “We want the Keystone XL pipeline built” along with other pipelines.

Leavitt said, [relevant remarks begin around 3:10] “I just saw President Trump’s statement, in case your audience hasn’t, from a few moments ago. He says our country is doing very well and he was just thinking about the company that was shooed away and canceled by the Biden administration who wanted to build the Keystone XL pipeline. He is inviting them back.”

She continued, “We want the Keystone XL pipeline built. He wants a pipeline built in the northeast, in New England, where I am from, where we have some of the highest electricity and utility rates in the country.”

As much as I hate it personally financially, this will help facilitate getting oil down to $40/bbl, which is the point I believe we can bankrupt the likes of Russia and Venezuela.  Wonder of Putin keeps up with energy news?   :pondering:

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
I don't think Keystone XL is going to happen. Far too much CAPEX was consumed by Government delays, and (probably taxpayer funded) environmental groups suing over every thing that moved and some things that didn't (plants), but could be avoided. At some point, unlike government, you have to see results when you are a billion dollars or more into a project, and Biden nuked that.

Funny, though, how crude keeps being delivered by trains, but there has been no whining about that since Biden killed the pipeline.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Thought that too, except when you factor in Trump arm twisting and wheeling and dealing, I'd give it a 25% chance.   We both have worked for big oil and know that when you talk projects in terms of billions, upper mgt. gets squeamish when you have to deal with squirrelly governments trying to get you to commit capital.

Aren't the Canadians now shipping much of their crude to the West (and to China) anyway?

What we really need is a natural gas pipeline from the north/central PA gas fields to New England.
Except New York state stands in the way, flat-out refusing to consider any proposals.

Time for Mr. Trump to bright the weight of his powers down on NY state officials and get this done.
