ICE Sets New Record For Arrests Since Trump Took Office
Since President Donald Trump took office, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested over 2,000 illegal immigrants, including 956 arrests made in a single day. The operations, particularly focused in Chicago, have targeted individuals deemed public safety threats, including sex offenders and gang members. Trump’s border czar Tom Homan recently noted that “The raids are underway.”
Homan said the raids are part of a focused effort targeting known criminals rather than indiscriminate sweeps. He noted that the raids are aimed at high-value targets, which include individuals with serious criminal backgrounds.
ICE reported an average of 310.7 noncitizens arrested daily in the previous federal fiscal year. The recent operations included about 1,300 arrests made through Thursday.
Homan warned that collateral arrests could occur during these operations, meaning that individuals found alongside targeted suspects may also be detained if they are in the country illegally. Homan stated, “There’s consequences [for] entering the country illegally.”
