A massive storm is on the horizon, threatening 27 states with up to a foot of snow today. The affected states include North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
As Storm Garnett sweeps across the nation, residents are warned of treacherous driving conditions and potential power outages. The National Weather Service (NWS) has placed 30 million people from the eastern Rockies and Dakotas to New York City and Boston under weather alerts, cautioning against mixed precipitation and ice accumulations.
Additional states facing heavy snowfall include Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Residents in these areas are advised to avoid travel; however, those who must venture out should carry a winter storm kit, shovel, flashlight, blankets, extra clothing, water, a first aid kit, and other survival items in case they become stranded, as recommended by The NWS.
"Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded," the alert advises.
