First-ever hydrogen nanogrid by US Army replaces diesel generators at key missile site

In a pioneering move towards sustainable energy, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) recently showcased a groundbreaking hydrogen-powered nanogrid at the White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) in New Mexico.

This demonstration, introduced in December 2024, marks a significant advancement in renewable energy applications for military operations and represents the Army’s first operational nanogrid of this type.

A nanogrid is a compact, self-sufficient electrical power system that functions independently from the traditional power grid.

Its ability to provide energy enhances resilience against potential power disruptions, particularly in remote locations where grid access is unavailable.

It seems to me the highest priority of the military, which does NOT include renewable energy, is to create offensive and defensive weapons.  This is especially true where our military appears to be in such a sad state of offensive or defensive preparedness.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
THis is nice to take camping in New Mexico.

On the battle field, having assets that can use the same fuel would seem to be a priority, and would simplify the logistics train. If everything there can run on the same fuel the helicopters use, for instance, then that fuel can be shuffled to where it is most needed, and used for everything from fighting to lighting the surgical tent at the aid station.

In WWII, the people who had some of the neatest and most innovative systems...lost the war. The guys who had a lot of basic equipment that ran on the same supply chain won. K.I.S.S. and keep the GFF down.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
