Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) hold on his gavel faces growing uncertainty as fractures within the House Republican conference threaten his ability to maintain the position. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) delivered a blunt assessment on Tuesday, claiming Johnson lacks the support needed to continue as Speaker, despite a high-profile endorsement from President-elect Donald Trump just a day prior.

In an interview with Fox Business, Roy voiced concerns shared by other House Republicans about the party’s direction and Johnson’s leadership. “I remain undecided, as do a number of my colleagues, because we saw so many of the failures last year that we are concerned about that might limit or inhibit our ability to advance the President’s agenda,” Roy said.

The Texas lawmaker further expressed his doubts about Johnson’s prospects ahead of a critical vote scheduled for Friday. “Right now, I don’t believe that he has the votes, and I think we need to have the conference get-together so that we can get united,” Roy added.

I'm not happy with Johnson as Speaker, but it's more important to get Trump in office and his nominees confirmed. If the Pubs vote that 4-5 members can vote to vacate the chair that would seem like a good mechanism to remove Johnson if he is a problem.

Chip Roy does seem to be doing everything he can to stick it to Trump.
