Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) said Thursday on CNN’s “Newsroom” that the proposed Department of Government Efficiency, headed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, would be “unconstitutional and illegal.”

Host Jim Acosta said, “I want to ask you about something that is coming into your wheelhouse. Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy apparently will be up on Capitol Hill talking about their ideas for this thing that they’re calling DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, which is a bit of a misnomer because it won’t be a part of the federal government, apparently but Congress controls the purse strings. What are your thoughts on Elon Musk and Ramaswamy deciding or trying to decide what stays and what goes in the federal government?”

Lofgren said, “Well, it’s illegal. You know they haven’t asked to meet with me, but the impoundment of funds that have been appropriated by the Congress is unconstitutional and illegal. There is no such Department of Government Efficiency it’s made up. So good luck to them. I mean, if, um, if there is a plan that President Trump wants to propose to the Congress he should send it to us but the Constitution does not permit the president to simply avoid what the Congress has done, that that power of the purse is with the legislative branch, not the president.”

DOGE sound like it could be rolled up into the US Office of Management and Budget.

In the end, it's either Congress, economics, or markets that have to limit Federal spending.

Congress via legislation.

Economics via revenue streams.

Markets via US Debt and US dollar.

I don't think DC has the will nor the want to constrain Federal spending because there is no scarcity of buyers for US Debt.

I'd watch for a yield curve inversion on Federal debt instruments and meteoric increase for the dollar-denominated price of gold.

I think those knucklehead's in DC have no compunction about destroying the full faith and credit of the United States.  They will spend until there are no more available dollars.  Then, they'll look to voluntary sources of additional dollars.  After which. they'll look to involuntary sources of additonal dollars.

Keep some cash and non-dollar stores of value outside the Federal Reserve and Treasury Systems - aka, banks and other financial institutions.

The only reason she's less well known for stupidity is that she has so much competition - e.g. Kammie, Lofgren's northern neighbor Pelosiroo, Swillwell, and Schifftyroo.

The power to spend what the Legislative Branch puts in the purse is with the Executive Branch, not Congress.  At least that's what the Constitution says.  Lofgren clearly has never read it.

I think that's the point. It didn't used to exist, now it does. Kind of like drug czars, border czars, and the like - all of which were okay with Dems.
