I should like to remind the people of New York City—especially those concerned about public safety—that, as governor, Andrew Cuomo brought us:
•A failed juvenile justice reform in “Raise The Age”;
•Godawful bail and discovery reforms that have made it less likely that even dangerous criminal offenders (by design, mind you) get detained while their cases pend, and more likely that criminal cases end up dismissed because the new, severely underfunded discovery burdens can’t actually be met in every case (which the framers of the law knew full well when they drafted it);
•The hastily enacted package of ten police reform bills signed after the death of George Floyd; and
•The closure of more than a dozen state prisons.
I have a hard time seeing how, given all this, Cuomo could win the public safety vote in a mayoral election.
