TRUMP IN MADISON SQUARE GARDEN. New York — Former President Donald Trump‘s six-week trial here in April and May meant that he spent more time in New York, more consecutive days, than he had in a very long time. He worked out ways to campaign while having to appear in court. He created an event in a bodega. He delivered pizzas at a firehouse. He stopped by a construction site. Each got a lot of coverage.

Then, on May 23, a week before his conviction, he held a rally in the South Bronx. It was big — estimates ranged from 8,000 to 10,000 people, while Trump said it was 25,000. “We had 25,000 people in the South Bronx,” Trump told me during a talk in June. “That crowd was incredible.” Then he added: “I’m going to Madison Square Garden, too.”

The plan, in its early stages, was still under wraps, aides insisted. But now it is happening. Trump, the native New Yorker, born and raised in Queens, moved to Manhattan to make it big, is holding a rally Sunday evening in the heart of his hometown, which also just happens to be the heart of political opposition to Donald Trump. For Trump, going into deep-blue Manhattan is going into political enemy territory that also happens to be his home.

In 2020, Trump lost Manhattan to Joe Biden with 14.5% of the vote to Biden’s 84.5%. Trump’s 14.5% was actually an improvement over 2016, when he won just 10% of the vote in Manhattan, to Hillary Clinton’s 86%.

I'm a realist.
Mr. Trump won't take Manhattan.
It won't even be close.

But the aura of the Madison Square Garden rally may rub off on other Republican candidates in New York State who -might- have a chance at winning.

Good on 'im for trying to help them out.

A real good barometer of November 5th will be how NY looks during the night.

No GOP candiate has narrowed the loss to under 10% since GHWB/Dukakis in 1988.  If we see a 5-10% differential, that will be a good indication that DJT has made progress toward securing the national vote.

The media, being the media, is claiming this rally was basically a Nuremberg rally and the usual pearl clutching about "racism" and "ugly remarks" has commended... has anything like that happened here?

If Republican voter turnout is heavy, I think Trump will take PA, NY and MI.

By the way @DefiantMassRINO  I am offended by your comparison of Trump to Hitler.  If anyone is like Hitler it is Harris.

Trump is only one man.  He alone cannot turn Red, Blue, and Purple America to Orange.

There's more to history, totalitarianism, and fascism than Hitler.

Harris is more Maoist.  Trump is more like Mussolini or Franco.  Hillary Clinton is Stalinist.

Alll of these guys had henchmen.  The greater threat than Trump, are thehenchmen - donors, politicians, business leaders, media personalities - that enable him.

Trump is about ego and power, not any particular ideology.  He's a mad dog that will eventually turn on his handlers.

In 2016 I voted for Trump, despite not supporting him in the primaries, not really believing he would win. When he did win I was shocked, and terrified that if people what said about him were true (he was a white supremacist, fascist, etc.), I'd be partially responsible. Well in his 4 years in office, I didn't find his behavior to be anything resembling a fascist at all. January 6th was a blight and an exception, but I chalk that up to Trump being delusional. If Trump was truly a fascist he would have been impeached  and convicted in his first term, and frankly thrown in jail. He was a CEO who IMO probably felt he had to live up to his "You're fired" persona.

He's less fascist than his Dem opponents, I'll tell you that.

NY is the site of important House races, but I don’t expect them to back a republican president again in my lifetime. 

PA and MI are the focal point.  Barring lousy turnout on election day, it looks like Donald and Co. will make it past 260, and then wish they had banked more early votes in MI and PA.
