Choice Between Republicans’ Bad Economic Ideas and Democrats’ Worse Economic Ideas
By William Sullivan

Commentators on both sides of the political aisle have had much to say about the idea of a law which would exempt service workers’ tips from taxation.

Trump supporters, in particular, seemed to love the idea when he brought it to the table, because it brings new potential voters into the growing tent. Lots of young people work in service jobs and earn tips, after all, and few of them have voted Republican in recent years.

When the Harris campaign adopted this position, some in the Trump camp were angry that she’d steal his idea.  But there’s no hypocrisy in that.  It’s just an entirely left-wing proposition that Democrats now wish they would have floated before Trump did.

Here are undeniable facts.  Income is taxed by our federal government, and tips are a form of income.

Now, if you want to argue that income should not be taxed by the federal government, I couldn’t possibly be more in favor of your position on the matter.  But since income is taxed, the question at hand is how income can be taxed fairly.

It cannot and that is precisely why the Marxists so favor it!

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

As I have said before, tax them on minimum wage. Nobody really knows how much is made.

The problem with ANY form of income tax is that the definition of "income" is always in flux and purposefully so.

Economic readjustments are difficult at best. It's got to be handled like turning a huge ship. It would be outstanding if we could return to the days before an income tax, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to map out a plan. I just know that we need to back off from the beast that was loosed on the American citizens in 1913. That was the camel's nose in the tent, and what a helluva mess it has become.

Click on the link in my above post and get busy educating yourself @AllThatJazzZ the bill that would get it done is already written, introduced, and languishing in the House Ways and Means Committee. Passage of that single bill into law would be game, set and match for us against the Marxist.

(The only reason it's not already law is that it takes the swamps power over us away.)

@Bigun

I'm on interminable hold with mechanic. Quick bottom line for me, please. Is this a sales tax? Tax on goods and services?

P.S. If we can get Trump into office, we can start de-swamping our government.

:yowsa: On NEW goods and services only.  Collected once, by the states at points of retail sale.  Like our founders universally endorsed.

I pray daily for the result you mention.

Thanks. I am for a sales tax. What I'm not for is a flat tax. I couldn't tell by the name if the Fair Tax was the latter. In 2 weeks (más o menos) we'll find out our fate. Keep praying, brother.  :seeya:

Not "fair tax".  No tax - income, that is.

Sales tax, period.

Trump Hints at Eliminating Federal Income Tax—Explains How He’d Replace The Tax Revenue
by Patty McMurray Oct. 24, 2024

First, he proposed no tax on tips, then no tax on overtime for hourly workers, and now, the man who connects more with the lower, middle, and upper earners than any President in recent history, is talking about giving every American the biggest tax break they’ve ever experienced—NO tax—at least no federal taxes.

Earlier this week, President Trump stopped by a Bronx barbershop with Fox News personality Lawrence Jones. There, he talked about inflation and taxes with the all-male clientele, barbers, the barbershop’s owner, and his father.

One male barber asked President Trump, “Do you believe that at some point and time, once the country’s back on its feet, and getting enough revenue, and paying off our debt, do you think it’s possible to find a way to eliminate federal taxes?”

Trump said,” There is a way! There is a way!” he repeated, explaining, “You know, in the old days, when we were smart, a smart country—in the 1890s, our country was relatively the richest it ever was.” He continued, “It had all tariffs; it didn’t have an income tax.”

“Yes, sir,” the barbershop customer replied.

“Now we have income taxes, and people, they are dying! They have taxes and don’t have money to pay their taxes. You know, in the old days, 1890 and 1880, we had so much money, they had to set up committees, blue ribbon committees—how to spend our wealth!” Trump explained to his audience at the impromptu barbershop town hall.

“We had no idea how to spend it; it was so much money!” he exclaimed. “Then we went to the income tax system, and the rest is sort of history,” Trump said, adding, “But no, there is a way——If what I’m planning comes out—“ President Trump said, as he paused to compliment the barbershop customer, “That’s a great question, by the way,” he said, adding, “You’re a pretty sophisticated cat!”

The barbershop customer who asked the question responded, telling President Trump, “Everyone could attaint the American dream if it wasn’t for the burden of high taxes. And we tax it every step of the way, when we make it, and when we spend it!” Trump interrupted, “And regulations!” adding, “So, I cut more regulations in four years than any other president!”

Is it possible to replace the federal taxes with tariffs?

Taxation is state-sponsored mugging.
"Political correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it’s entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end." - Alan Simpson, Frontline Video Interview
