It is surprising to me that there is NOT a single word in the media about the threat of Marburg Fever and what is happening right now.

The CDC is deploying doctors and nurses to international airports to check people arriving in the USA for Marburg Fever.  If they are doing this, I suspect it is here already, and they are keeping a lid on it.

Per a doctor I know, it is worse than Ebola!

And here I thought they just gave out grants to doctors who were engaged to craft studies that were designed to produce a desired result and perhaps helped them get published.

Not if an infected person is already bleeding, which is one of the symptoms of the disease.

It could be, but that is not considered the primary vector. Like Ebola, funerary practices involve relatives washing and dressing the body, which led to a rapid expansion of the outbreak in west Africa a few years back. The viral reservoir is in migratory fruit bats, something Mother Abigail and I were discussing on TOS long ago, and which has since been confirmed, in Dec. 2005 in an article in Volume 438 of Nature. While poorly cooked 'bushmeat' (the bats are considered a delicacy) may be one vector, open wounds on the hands, contact with the bodily fluids of an infected bat,and perhaps even contact with droppings or ingesting partially eaten fruit (the sort of thing a small child might do) may also contribute. The clues were that index cases often involved being in caves or mine workings, or small children, and were geographically scattered with no apparent connection (on the ground), which led to the postulation of an aerial vector, likely migratory, and fruit bats fit the bill.

Ebola and Marburg are related filoviruses. Both cause hemorrhagic fever, (except Ebola reston) and both have lethality ranging from 50-95%. (And you thought COVID was bad).

Bleach based (sodium hypochlorite) cleaners can eliminate the virus from surfaces.

Basically, the best way to avoid the spread of the virus is to contain the area and population where the outbreak is. Individuals traveling out of the area should bee quarrantined before being allowed to leave if there is any question of the possibility of infection. The virus cannot be spread ordinarily during incubation, but is shed afterwards.

There is no need, as you said, to panic if sane containment is practiced.

No, it doesn’t.  How do we know this?  Because it’s been around for a long time with the same method of infection. 

Geez, stop letting them herd you in the direction they want you to go.
