Pilgrim Lutheran Church in St Paul, MN, is a trainwreck of a congregation. Led by impastor Jen Rome, they are an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) congregation that exemplifies all the most heretical parts of the denomination. Notably, a recent article by RNS identified this as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s (who is Kamala Harris’ radical Vice President pick) denomination and parish. ...

The church, which checks off all the usual pro-choice/ pro-LGBTQ boxes, uses the “Inclusive Bible” for all scripture readings and say they are committed to:

    Antiracism work, de-centering whiteness, and making reparations for race violence
    LGBTQIA+ affirmation and making a safe space for people of all genders and orientations
    Gender equity and ensuring that the voices of women and nonbinary/gender non-conforming individuals are amplified
    Accessible spaces that all bodies can navigate with ease
    A planet we can thrive in for many generations to come, including supporting efforts to uplift and protect indigenous care of the land

During a June 12 sermon, David Weiss preached a message for Trinity Sunday, which is supposed to be dedicated to expounding on this glorious doctrine. Instead, however, Weiss shared that “I’m not much interested in reflecting on the sacred mystery of the godhead: three persons in one divinity … whatever that means” in light of being “transfixed (all over again) by the spectacle of January 6, the fragility of our democracy, and the rising threat of authoritarian white “Christian” nationalism that seems hellbent on making America “great” again by erasing voting rights, reproductive rights, and pursuing a xenophobic assault manner of civil rights.” ...

I was born and raised in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, which was and is theologically conservative. While I have moved into charismatic-Baptist-ish Evangelical circles, I still am interested in Luther denominations' doings (a high school friend was the son of a Lutheran pastor and also a pastor in one of the denominations that combined to form ELCA). Looking over

I'm 99.9% sure I could find similar verbiage on the website for the ELCA church in Saratoga that I drive by every Sunday morning. IOW, Pilgrim Lutheran Church is mainstream ELCA. BTW, my friend's congregation left ELCA shortly after the ~1988 merger. ELCA has been leaking congregations and people for nearly 4 decades, largely due to stances like the above.

Looking over Prince of Peace Lutheran's "About" webpage, https://www.propeace.org/about-the-prince-of-peace-community.html , they say it less verbosely:

We believe the gospel is God's unconditional gift for everyone. We believe in the full participation of all people in our church community without regard to socioeconomic, family, or immigration status, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation, previous faith or life experiences, physical or mental abilities, ethnicity or age.

Theologically liberal "mainline" Protestant churches have been leaking people and congregations for decades, the duration variation varying with the timing and degree of the denominations' slides into rejection of the Scriptures and Christian faith.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz attends a church that preaches beliefs related to gender, race and sexuality that many Christian denominations strongly oppose.

Walz, who is the governor of Minnesota, identified Pilgrim Lutheran Church in St. Paul as his parish during a 2020 briefing on the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials published by Pilgrim Lutheran Church instruct parishioners not to refer to God using male pronouns, push congregants to support reparation funds, encourage them to celebrate Ramadan and include a modified gender-neutral version of the Lord’s Prayer, among other liberal practices.

Pilgrim Lutheran Church is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a mainline protestant denomination that has been criticized by some conservative Christians for ordaining transgender and lesbian bishops as well as for its embrace of LGBT ideology.

“The ELCA is, broadly speaking, a liberal American mainline Protestant denomination,” Jonah Wendt, a policy adviser for Mike Pence’s Advancing American Freedom and a member of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “They reject the inerrancy of scripture, ordain women to the pastoral office [and] hold what many would believe to be unbiblical views on abortion and homosexual behavior.”

Pilgrim Lutheran Church in 2015 approved “guidelines for language in worship” wherein the congregation asserted that “a patriarchal culture gave birth to the writing of scripture and the selection of the canon” and, to rectify the purported injustice, committed to using gender-neutral language to describe God. Members of the church, for instance, are encouraged to “choose non-anthropomorphic language” like “hen” or “baker” to refer to God, and urged “not to limit these by following them with male or female pronouns.”

Wendt uses mild words to soften stark reality. ELCA rejects the inerrancy of Scripture, but the LCMS teaches it and a group now part of ELCA splintered off the LCMS over the teaching. ELCA ordains women to the pastoral office, the LCMS does not. ELCA is Pro-Abortion, the LCMS has been Pro-Life since before the Roe vs. Wade decision. ELCA rejects Scriptural teaching regarding homosexual (males and females) practices, the LCMS teaches the inerrancy of Scripture and does not weasel what Scripture says about homosexual practices.

What I quoted above from Prince of Peace Lutheran's "About" webpage, "We believe in the full participation of all people in our church ..." is what they believe, though they might find murderers, rapists, and pedophiles, ummmm, complicate their "inclusiveness".

My Grandfather was one of the founders of what is now the ELCA church in my former hometown (1930s or early 1940s). I wonder what he and the founders of many/most decades-old ELCA congregations would think of what ELCA has made itself.

In the real world, the Ethiopian eunuch was a high court official in a black African kingdom that was independent of Rome. "Eunuch" could mean he had been castrated or could just be a title. If the former, he would have had no choice in the matter, unlike "Trans" people who choose to have The Surgery.

Not that the facts of the Biblical text matter to misleaders like Bancroft.
