Washington state starts pressing utilities to tack on a   "social cost of carbon"  to electricity prices.

What you need to know:

1. The "social cost of carbon" (SCC) is entirely bogus.  100% of our society depends on fossil fuels.

2. The social benefit of carbon is huge -- I estimate at least $1,700 per ton of CO2. But it's really incalculable.

3. Without fossil fuels our society would stop and billions would die. Fossil fuels have taken humanity from 1 billion to eight billion people living longer wealthier, healthier and freer lives than ever before.
