BREAKING: Army Blames Recent Helicopter Accidents on Rushed Training, Pilot Errors (UPDATED)

The Army has pointed to rushed training and pilot errors as the main reasons for a rash of helicopter accidents that have resulted in several fatalities.

There have been 14 major accidents resulting in 11 fatalities in the past year, Brig. Gen. Matthew Braman, director of Army Aviation, said Sept. 4 at an Association for the United States Army speech. The mishap rate is about double the yearly average over the last 10 years, he added.

“It's not a surprise to anybody in this room that we had a pretty rough year on the aviation side,” he said.
 
The latest occurred Aug. 29 at Fort Novosel, Kentucky, when a UH-72 Lakota crashed during a training mission injuring two, the Associated Press reported.

He said investigations found six of the 14 accidents were due to “effectiveness or authority issues,” or pilot error in plain English.

Still, the only real blame is with the Army for pushing things to quickly.
