Border patrol officers in Miami have arrested 18 illegal immigrants suspected of multiple crimes, including assaults and drug offenses, with plans to deport them.

The suspects, from Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, China, Jamaica and Colombia were all detained between July 8 and 11.

U.S. Immigrations Customs and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) said this was the latest effort to target "individuals who pose a threat to public safety".

"ERO is focused on smart, effective immigration enforcement that protects citizens throughout Florida by arresting and removing those who undermine our immigration laws and pose a safety threat to our communities," ERO Miami Field Office Director Garrett Ripa said in a press release.
