In a move that has caused an outcry from both ends of the political divide, California Governor Gavin Newsom is pressing forward with ambitious plans to build a giant tunnel to catch rainwater.

A $20 Billion water tunnel, in an earthquake zone, to siphon water from an environmentally important estuary, advocated by a U.C. Berkley professor - what could possibly go wrong?

Past projects have been boons for Mono Lake and Owens Lake.

BTW, Boston's Big Dig was projected to cost $2.8 Billion 1982 dollars.  It cost $21.5 Billion ($8.8 Billion 1982 dollars), it leaks, it has killed people, and its 50 years bonds will bankrupt generations of MassHoles to come.

I wonder how many desalination plants along the coast could be built to take coastal city pressure off dwindling water resources with 20 billion dollars? Of course the unelected green socialists on the states water resources board will never let that happen(even Noisome was for building a plant) they would deny it just like the one or two that were proposed because the morons said it they would change the sea level or some such absurdity.

Peripheral Canal 2.0

For decades SoCal pols were pushing the Peripheral Canal project to divert more water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin River system to SoCal. They never quite succeeded in this endeavor. So this would be a new way to take NorCal water to the Land of LA.

BTW, I realize some folks think California is a giant earthquake fault, but comparing maps of faults in the Bay Area and Central Valley and of the proposed route for the project, the route is not near any earthquake fault, and even farther from the major faults, the San Andreas and Hayward Faults.
