Vice President Kamala Harris promised Ukraine $1.5 billion towards energy assistance, emergency infrastructure repairs within the sector, and humanitarian efforts.
Harris was in Lucerne, Switzerland, on Saturday for the Summit on peace in Ukraine, where she met with President Volodymyr Zelensky and made the announcement. Some $500 million will go to energy, while another $324 million will go to repairs, and $379 million in food, water, and health services for Ukrainians.
“This war remains an utter failure for [Russian President Vladimir] Putin,” Harris said. “It is in our interest to uphold international norms.”
At the event, Harris also commented on the proposal Putin put forward.
“Yesterday, Putin put forward a proposal,” she said. “But we must speak truth: He is not calling for negotiations; he is calling for surrender.”
In April, the House passed The Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act which appropriated $60.84 billion in the war against Russia that is going on three years. Zelensky also met with President Joe Biden at the G7 Summit earlier this week.
