Some where in the back of my mind I seem to remember Cheney doing something similar when he ran with Bush. I know he had a house in Highland Park and may have had a residence in Wyoming as well. 
Really not important enough to research.
IIRC the Cheneys had several residences long before he was named the VP candidate by GWB. Don't think that's true of Marco but I really don't know. I agree that it doesn't matter since no one is paying one damned bit of heed to the constitution in this area these days. Witness our current VP who I'm not sure is even a citizen much less an NBC. @Maj. Bill Martin
