Trump denies calling dead soldiers ‘losers and suckers’ after Biden visit to cemetery in France
by Brett Samuels - 06/10/24 8:39 AM ET

Former President Trump again denied referring to dead U.S. soldiers as “suckers” and “losers” after President Biden stopped at the cemetery in France on Sunday that Trump did not visit during his own trip to the country in 2018.

“Obviously, I never said that dead Soldiers are ‘losers and suckers.’ Who would say such a thing?” Trump posted on Truth Social, calling the accusation “made up disinformation” coming from his opponents.

“Anytime you see that despicable FAKE statement used, remember that it comes from the FASCIST SCUM that is destroying our Country,” Trump posted.

Trump’s latest denial came on the heels of Biden’s trip to France, which concluded with a stop at Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, where more than 2,200 U.S. soldiers who fought in World War I are buried.

While Biden did not mention Trump during his visit to the cemetery, the stop was an undeniable rebuke to the former president and presumptive 2024 GOP nominee.

During his own 2018 trip to France, Trump skipped a planned visit to the same cemetery, with the White House citing bad weather as the reason. The Atlantic reported in 2020 that Trump asked staffers, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” The magazine reported Trump later referred to war dead as “suckers” for getting killed.

While Trump has denied making the remarks, his former chief of staff, John Kelly, later corroborated the magazine’s account.
