Chinese companies have once again started creating corporate militias, something that was previously an issue in the 1970s. A CNN analysis of state media discovered that at least 16 major firms in the country have already established fighting forces, one of which is a privately owned dairy giant.
The units are called People’s Armed Forces Departments and are made up of regular civilians still working their day jobs, ready to be utilized as a reserve branch of the military.
China has the largest military in the world, and the reintroduction of corporate militias means their troops will be available for missions such as natural disaster response efforts, maintaining social order, and wartime support.
