This "Biden is dropping out before the election" nonsense is a pipe dream

One, he's raising record amounts of money for his campaign and other democrats while the GOP is going broke

Two, he's beating MAGA and proved he can

Three, presidents who chose not to run are usually replaced by the opposite party. Truman and Johnson were replaced by Republicans come election time when they both decided not to run

Four, Biden's gaffes and sputtering are already known by voters so that's already factored in in how the public sees him

Fifth, if he drops before the election, Kamala becomes president and the DNC knows she's a train wreck

We'll see what happens, but it seems to me the Dems are in a bigger pickle right now than the GOP. Both have serious problems, but at least the GOP has a candidate that can physically deliver a message. The Dems will rely almost completely on smoke and mirrors, plus shenanigans. That has been a winning formula for them in the past, but not always.

The problem is that there really isn't any way at this point for Democrats to replace him as the candidate involuntarily.  Most of the ballot deadlines are passed, and he's the only one on many of them.  So it has to come from him/Jill.

I think last night's train wreck actually makes that less likely.  He's been accused very publicly of mental incompetence, and is angry about it.  Can't see him backing down at this point because that would amount to a concession that the Special Counsel's assessment was correct.  There's no chance of any other, more innocent explanation that "I just want to enjoy my retirement/want to give someone else a chance," etc.. incompetence would be the unavoidable explanation, and he's not willing to admit that.  Nor is his wife.

Some folks live in conspiracist's world where some faceless "they" hold all this magical power.  Not true.  There's nobody who can force a sitting President or VP to quit out of thin air unless they've already screwed up on a level that makes it acceptable to the public.

What the party might be able to do is to nominate someone else as VP in their convention, because neither Biden nor Harris can force her on the ticket again without the consent of the delegates.  But I don't think they could get that by their most loyal and powerful single voting block -- black women.
