Some vaccinated and COVID-infected people are reportedly being diagnosed with a new type of disease called VEXAS syndrome—an autoinflammatory disease discovered in 2020.

Many people are familiar with autoimmune diseases, often caused by dysfunction among the adaptive immune cells, while problems within the innate immune system often cause autoinflammatory diseases.

VEXAS syndrome—short for vacuoles, E1 enzyme, X-linked, autoinflammatory, somatic syndrome—is caused by mutations in the innate immune cells, a somatic mutation in the UBA1 gene found on the X chromosome.
 
Somatic mutations cannot be inherited, meaning individuals acquire this mutation later in life.

The mutation affects the stem cells in the bone marrow. The cells mature into specialized immune cells that circulate within the bloodstream.

  Information about this was first published in October 2020. Which means the research was done earlier. Since Covid vaccines were not authorized until December 2020, the predictably anti-Covid-vax Epoch Times' attempt to associate this syndrome with Covid vaccines is an anachronistic fail. The research may have begun before Covid became common in the US, but I was unable to learn when this research began.

  The VEXAS syndrome is due to a genetic mutation, https://www.niams.nih.gov/newsroom/spotlight-on-research/nih-researchers-discover-new-inflammatory-disease-called-vexas , viral vector  . The main targets of anti-Covid-vaxers are mRNA vaccines. mRNA vaccines do not work by altering cells' genetic material. While viral vector vaccines do alter some cells' genetic material, those cells are destroyed by the recipients' immune system. The predictably anti-Covid-vax Epoch Times' attempt to associate this syndrome with mRNA Covid vaccines fails because mRNA vaccines do not work in a way that would cause this syndrome, and <<5% of Covid vaccines administered in the US (= Johnson & Johnson) are of the viral vector type.

IIRC from my myriad casual reads over years trying to deal with my various problems, I think it’s more likely to show on males.

Not knowing just how this acts, in genetics 1 X might be affected but not another. The other X might mask it. For males there is no other X to cover it up.

But again, this is more about genetic heredity and not acquired. So may be irrelevant.
