ARLINGTON, Virginia — With China continuing to invest in advanced military technology and Houthi rebels threatening freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, the U.S. Navy is facing a raft of threats and challenges that require the service to have the best weapons, systems and platforms, the service’s new chief said.
“And in this era of reduced buying power, workforce shortages and supply chain challenges, we must exercise strategic discipline to ensure that we are the most ready combat credible force that we can be,” said Adm. Lisa Franchetti at the Surface Navy Association’s National Symposium.
Franchetti, who was sworn in as the first woman to serve as chief of naval operations on Nov. 2, said she intends to build on and accelerate the work of her predecessor, Adm. Michael Gilday, by focusing on three priorities.
