2024 presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. plans to announce he will run as an independent on October 9 in Pennsylvania, Mediaite has learned.

Kennedy’s campaign machine is now planning “attack ads” against the Democratic National Committee in order to “pave the way” for his announcement in Philadelphia about running as an independent, according to a text reviewed by Mediaite.

“Bobby feels that the DNC is changing the rules to exclude his candidacy so an independent run is the only way to go,” a Kennedy campaign insider told Mediaite.  ...

I see this as a good thing. Possibly splitting the DEM vote, I don't see many GOP voting for him.

Indeed, polls show Republicans have a far more favorable view of Kennedy than Democrats. As the National Review’s Jim Geraghty pointed out in July, when a survey asked New Hampshire Democrats to describe Kennedy in one word, the top responses were “crazy,” “dangerous,” “insane,” “conspiracy,” and “unknown.”  ...

Who knows. As we've discussed here, way too many conservatives say they like him, when all they know about him is the anti-vax stuff.

Yes, I like him to the extent that he has been pretty truthful and outspoken about what's going on in the Brandon administration, but that doesn't mean I'd vote for him. I also believe he has better 'character' than Trump.

So he's an anti-vaxer, if people are going to vote for him on that one issue, then they shouldn't be voting.

He does fall in-line (at least according to "on the issues") as a moderate, and is still more conservative then some who claim to be Republican, but running as an independent he has BOTH sides against him, with not a shot of being seated.

There was rumor at one time that he'd be Trump's running mate.  Trump is considered a populist and really isn't that far away for RFK's values as a moderate.

As long as the nominee is Trump, he's a bigger problem for the Democrats.

I think the only Republicans who might vote for the guy are some Trumpers, but they're not going to vote for RFK Jr. over Trump so I don't see it hurting Trump.  But there may be some Trumpers vote for him instead of another Republican if Trump isn't the nominee.

Your thoughts on RFKjr running as an independent. Who gets hurt the most, Trump or Biden/Newsom? I like RFK. Wish he had a better position on abortion.

If RFK runs as an independent, he'll siphon votes from Trump than from Democrats. Because Dems don't vote for a person, they vote whoever the party tells them to vote for.
And it wouldn't surprise me if that was the Democrat party's plan all along.
