Key Points

•   A coalition of environmental groups this week sued the Biden administration in an effort to stop more than 3,500 permit applications from energy companies to drill for oil and gas on federal lands.

•   The groups argued the administration hasn’t considered the damage that climate-changing carbon dioxide emissions from drilling does to endangered species, and that permit approvals in Wyoming and New Mexico violated several federal laws.

•   The groups said the burning of fossil fuels from drilling is heating the planet and damaging imperiled species like Hawaiian songbirds, desert fish, ice seals and polar bears.

A coalition of environmental groups this week sued the Biden administration in an effort to stop more than 3,500 permit applications from energy companies to drill for oil and gas on federal lands.

The groups argued the administration hasn’t considered the damage that climate-changing carbon dioxide emissions from drilling does to endangered species, and that permit approvals in Wyoming and New Mexico violated federal laws including the Endangered Species Act.

The groups said burning fossil fuels from drilling is heating the planet and damaging imperiled species like Hawaiian songbirds, desert fish, ice seals and polar bears. The administration’s approved permits, they said, will release up to 600 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

The lawsuit is the latest attempt by environmentalists to pressure the administration to halt new drilling permits. Earlier in his term, Biden sought to commit to his campaign promise to suspend new drilling on federal lands, but was thwarted after legal challenges from GOP-led states and the oil industry.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
In the 1970s the USSR, funded several environmental (some, then, conservation) groups, with the goal of shifting their energies toward hampering Western Industry to weaken the west.

Best money they ever spent, from that viewpoint.

What has emerged is a socialist (Communist) juggernaut of donation funded organizations (and some not self-funding, but getting grant money from all over) constantly 'protesting' and legally assailing any attempts at industrial development in the US.

Part of the reasoning given for 'outsourcing' was that it was cheaper, not just because of labor elsewhere, but because of the inevitable delays and expenses in siting, building, supplying, and operating any manufacturing facility due to litigation by a plethora of well-funded small groups and the expense of having to conduct a multitude of studies to finally get permits to proceed, often with moving target compliance goals.

While, during that era, there was legitimate concern over the handling of some industrial and other wastes, the standards have been continually and incrementally tightened in such a way that when one standard is met, another is imposed, causing greater expense and further delays in production.

Now we have a fraction of the industry, and the Green New Deal, and are less ready to meet the needs of our military and civilian population than ever.

We can't even supply ordinary day-to-day goods under the current stranglehold of regulations and litigation. For the first time since rural electrification, we are having serious questions about being able to supply electricity for our population.

This is a self-inflicted wound, and if something is not done to address it, it could prove fatal.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

It already is proving to be fatal.  Soaring gas prices brings a financial burden to individuals, families and businesses.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

This is typical of US Jurisprudence today...suing the government to do what they already want to do.  Does anybody here think the Biteme administration will fight this with any kind of vigor?
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16
I will NOT comply.

I met a guy over the weekend doing some volunteer work.  He's in construction.  He said he's to the point of making a decision of either buying gas or buying food for his family.  He's one of millions making the same decision.

Then they get money from the government to set up the next suit. This is lucrative blackmail.
