Medal of Honor recipient and WWII Army pilot accounted for
By Army Public AffairsMay 4, 2022

WASHINGTON — The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced on April 13 that U.S. Army Air Forces Lt. Col. Addison E. Baker, 36, killed during World War II and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, was accounted for on April 8, 2022.

Baker’s remains are currently located at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, and will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on a date to be determined later.

Currently, more than 400 Medal of Honor recipients ranging from the Civil War to current conflicts are represented at Arlington National Cemetery, our nation’s most hallowed shrine to military service.

I am SERIOUSLY hoping any remaining family member that wants to attend the services will be provided with transportation and housing.

It would be shameful to not do that.

I agree.

That man has my immediate respect , just finding out the target that day.

Ploiesti was one of those targets that most men dread, and get their affairs in order before they go wheels up.  A 'ring' of five oil refinery complexes joined by an ingenious pipeline network that permitted any or most to be bypassed if damaged, it was very high priority for the Reich, and high priority for us to destroy.

Only Berlin had more 88mm antiaircraft positions around it than that refinery complex, which was why the bombers went in low (just above the rooftops). The distance traveled in the mission left many who survived the bombing run without adequate fuel to return to their base of departure.

His actions over the target enabled his squadron mates to get home, at the cost of his own life. :patriot:

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
