Kamala Harris Compares Republicans to Brutal Alabama Troopers on Bloody Sunday

Vice President Kamala Harris commemorated the anniversary of “Bloody Sunday” in Selma, Alabama, by comparing Republicans to the brutal state troopers that attacked black civil rights protesters.

On Sunday, March 7, 1965, white Alabama state troopers brutally attacked civil rights activists in Selma as they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge in a march for voting rights. According to Kamala Harris, Republicans passing voter ID laws (which black Americans support) and limiting mail-in voting are just like the actions of those troopers.

“Those brave marches continued to push forward to secure the freedom to vote. And they were pushed back. Today we stand on this bridge at a different time. We again, however, find ourselves caught in between injustice and justice, between disappointment and determination, still in a fight, to form a more perfect union,” she said.

Vice President Kamala Harris had a brief scare when she returned from her trip to Selma, Alabama. The administration was there to commemorate the 57th anniversary of "Bloody Sunday," where state police beat up civil rights demonstrators protesting over lack of voting access. Upon return of Air Force Two at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, a vehicle with two occupants, one of them armed, blew past a security checkpoint. One person was arrested, the other is still at large. As a result, the base was locked down. This incident occurred around 9 PM last night (via Washington Examiner):
