Sen. Lee: Biden's Troop Deployment Amid 'Imminent Hostilities' Triggers the War Powers Act

In three tweets on February 25, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said President Biden, under the War Powers Act, must "report to Congress within 48 hours" or else remove U.S. troops from "imminent hostilities."

Sen. Lee's remarks follow NATO's decision to activate its Rapid Defense Force for the first time in NATO history.

Lee tweeted:

"President Biden’s unilateral deployment of our Armed Forces to the European theater, where we now know they are in imminent hostilities, triggers the War Powers Act, necessitating that the President report to Congress within 48 hours.

"Should Congress not receive such a report, and Congress not authorize this use of military force, our forces would need to be removed from imminent hostilities. NATO invoking Article V calling on defensive support is not self-enforcing.

"The Constitution requires that Congress must vote to authorize any use of our Armed Forces in conflict.".........

I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.
