Democrats to nix $1B for Israel's Iron Dome from bill to avert shutdown

House Democrats will remove a provision originally included in a bill that would have helped to boost Israel's Iron Home air defense system in order to keep the federal government funded through Dec. 3.

Democratic leaders are removing the provision from the bill, which was unveiled Tuesday morning, after some progressives objected, according to sources familiar with the last-minute snag.

Democrats are still planning to bring the legislation to the House floor later Tuesday. Congress must act within a matter of days to avoid a government shutdown when current funding expires at the end of this month.


A spokesperson for House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) said that funding for the Iron Dome "will be included in the final, bipartisan and bicameral" defense funding bill later this year.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), a leading centrist, expressed frustration that the Iron Dome funding was being removed but stopped short of threatening to vote against the bill.

"The Iron Dome protects innocent civilians in Israel from terrorist attacks and some of my colleagues have now blocked funding it," Gottheimer tweeted. "We must stand by our historic ally — the only democracy in the Middle East."

The far-left Democrats forced out provisions to fund Israel’s Iron Dome from the continuing resolution (CR) that would keep the government funded and raise the debt ceiling, according to reports.

According to Army Technology, “Iron Dome provides defence[sic] against short-range missiles and rockets which pose a threat to the civilian population,” such as those fired from Gaza earlier this year.

After Israel denied the Trump administration's (repeated) requests to monitor the new China-run Port in Haifa to protect our fleet from China's spying eyes, I think Israel is now a quasi-ally.

Hopefully we can shoot the messengers of this cut and still remember Israel is a modern, wealthy nation.  The $1.7b terminal operated by the state-owned Shanghai firm will increase trade and be a huge boost to the Israeli economy.  Additionally,  Israel's offshore natural gas is now flowing with an estimated minimum $12 billion in annual export income.  Israel is home to many billionaires, boasts an extensive and lucrative high-tech sector, cyber-warriors and its own military industrial complex.

And Israel can more than take care of herself ---  not only has she a nuclear missle arsenal ---- in addition to the army, air force and iron dome, Israel has six nuclear-armed submarines.  She also has warm relations with Russia --- and now China.

The American people deserve to know why we have to pay one additional dollar --- never mind an additioanal $1 billion  ----- to pay for Israel's replacement miliary supplies .  No one is supporting stopping all aid to Israel;  but the time to add some much needed caps to the equation has arrived.

BTW,  Israel threatening to recall their ambassador over this is an insult.

It really is mindboggling how a group of people who colletively are probably THE smartest and hardest working people on the planet,can be such collossal fools. You would think that with thousands of years of history of being screwed over would have taught them this "We is da wurld" stuff is a scam on the highest order,with the goal of enslaving the whole freaking planet.
