He clearly IS a smart guy,but the truth is he had no ideology other than Bill Mahn. He says anything he needs to say to keep his name in the headlines. Who the hell knows WHAT he really believes,if anything?

He is clearly right on this though. Hell,he may even believe this himself because like you said,he's smart,and only stupid people and weasel politicians believe anything else.
