Germany Desperate For Coal Power, As Wind & Solar Power Fail

Germany’s held up as the world’s wind and solar capital. But, at the moment, the ‘green’ stuff can’t be purchased, at any price.

Its millions of solar panels are blanketed in snow and ice and breathless, freezing weather is encouraging its 30,000 wind turbines to do absolutely nothing, at all. [Note to Ed: don’t forget about the constant supply of electricity from the grid that these things chew up heating their internal workings so they don’t freeze up solid!]

So much for the ‘transition’ to an all wind and sun powered future – aka the ‘Energiewende’.

Despite being the object of consternation and much vilification over the last 20 years, Germany’s coal-fired plants are now being appreciated for what they are: truly meaningful power generation sources, available on demand, whatever the weather. With a Nationwide blackout a heartbeat away, the German obsession with unreliable wind and solar is like a time bomb set to explode.

Germany has scarred its beautiful landscape with windmills and massive solar installations. Looks like it's all for naught.

The Sun goes down at night? The Sun is obscured by clouds during winter storms? Snow covers solar panels mounted on roof tops and in solar farms? How could anybody know?! :sarc:

Windmills don't work when the wind is too calm? Windmills have to be shut down for safety when the wind is too strong? How could anybody know?! :sarc:

Intermittent power sources are not suitable for 24x7x52 baseload power. From what I've read, the variation and intermittency of solar and windmill installations have caused nightmarish grid control difficulty in Germany and EuroLand. This has been going on for years, but the pols care more about symbols than reliable power.

And like this story shows, you have to have complete redundancy for every green generator out there to cover when it may not generate that hour/day/week/month/season. So you pay for at least twice as much capacity beyond the added cost of going "green".

Everyone's standard of living goes down with these schemes. "Progressives" are nearly always regressive with their policies.

Seems to me there is a ready market in Germany, with demand growing daily.


Just think about when the Gaia worshipers have finished prepping the American market.
