New York Sent More Than 4,500 Coronavirus Patients Into Nursing Homes After Cuomo Order: AP

New York nursing homes were forced to accept more than 4,500 coronavirus patients from hospitals thanks to an order from Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a tally by The Associated Press found.

Cuomo has come under heated criticism for his March 25 order forcing recovering COVID-19 patients into New York nursing homes — a decision blamed for the state’s high body count among the elderly. The governor waited roughly six weeks before reversing the order on May 10.

The New York State Department of Health refused to release the results of an internal survey on how many coronavirus patients were placed in nursing homes across the state, the AP reported.

There are actually two stories here:  A policy decision was made that phenomenally stupid, and then there is the change in the reporting of COVID-19 deaths that was done to hide the results of that policy.

In New York we were subjected to constant news clips of Cuomo’s covid briefings and his magnificent handling of the crisis at the top and bottom of every news hour. Sickening.

My wife works at a nursing home in Brooklyn affiliated with Maimonedes Medical Center—in fact, the hospital is just across the street. Her facility was directly impacted by Cuomo’s incompetent blunder. They were forced to accept elderly afflicted patients rather than be sent to the hospital across the street!

The building lost residents, nurses and aides to the virus. One floor was decimated by covid deaths. They had to strip the entire floor down to the studs and rebuilt it again, and now it’s an isolation ward manned by doctors and nurses.

By the way, there were no PPE at the facility. My wife had to scrounge around for her own face mask, bought her face shield on Amazon. Only recently did they provide her with a safety gown.

Probably because PPE was diverted to hospitals without thought of the needs created by forcing Covid-19 patients into nursing homes. Were those patients kept in isolated wards with strict precautions, which the Fed guidelines Cuomo claims he followed, required? Or was the facility forced to place them wherever there was room without the necessary PPE?

They were put in the general population, but some of the sickest were placed on the 4th floor, which had been where doctors would transfer residents needing next level care, something like an intensive care unit. That’s where the outbreak and deaths started occurring, 4th floor.

Nursing homes in the state of New York were forced to accept over 4,500 patients who were positive with the coronavirus because of an order that was issued by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. That was according to a tally made by the Associated Press.

Cuomo is facing intense criticism for his order that required nursing homes to accept patients who were recovering from the coronavirus. The problem is that the elderly are specifically prone to the sickness caused by the virus. The introduction of the patients into the nursing home facilities is now being blamed for the high death count in New York nursing homes. Cuomo gave out the order on the 25th of March but he waited several weeks before he reversed it on the 10th of May. That was enough to kill many of the residents in nursing homes.

Yabut....is it enough to convince New Yorkers they need a more competent Governor?  I just don't see it, and all I can hear are cries of, "Thank you Sir, may I have another?"
