Pennsylvania state senate votes to override governor's stay-at-home order
The Hill, Apr 15, 2020

The Pennsylvania state senate on Wednesday sent a bill that would partially lift the lockdown on most of the state’s businesses to Gov. Tom Wolf’s (D) desk.

The measure, Senate Bill 613, would require the governor’s office to align with federal guidelines in determining which businesses will be allowed to reopen during the pandemic, allowing all those that can safely operate with mitigation strategies under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency guidelines.

The measure passed the senate 29-21 Wednesday after passing the state House 107-95 Tuesday.

The Republican senate also approved a bill that would allow county governments to implement their own plans to reopen independent of the state’s plan.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
If Wolf vetoes the measure, the full responsibility for reopening the State and ending the stay at home order is on him.

Too early, and the State may experience a fresh wave of infections.

Too late and the State will experience economic damage, as will those individuals and businesses who have been shut down too long.

Either way, he'll own that.

Hitting the Goldilocks zone (just right) on when to reopen is going to be tough with an unknown pathogen out there.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Gov. Tom Wolf will veto bill that would allow more Pa. businesses to open during COVID-19 crisis

By Jan Murphy

Gov. Tom Wolf has no plans to move forward with a broader reopening of businesses during the COVID-19 emergency.

His spokesman said he will veto the GOP-backed Senate Bill 613, which the General Assembly sent to his desk on Wednesday. The governor plans to continue his aggressive measures to stem the spread of the virus.  ...
All of the state that isn't Philadelphia or Pittsburgh is not of any importance to him.

  • Dems-greatest existential threat to USA republic!
PA deserves what they get with this Democommie governor.  Wolf is horrible, and I do not understand how he got elected.

I am from PA, and I thought PA had some of the most corrupt politicians.  I do not miss it at all.

And worst of all, PA courts treat fathers horribly.  I am forever estranged from my children in large part because of the corrupt PA courts.

Wolf, and in fact, most Democrat politicians, get elected because of a very large union presence in the major cities.    The last Republican governor was Tom Corbett who was a disaster.  Republicans in this state have traditionally controlled the legislature, but they are every bit like the Democrats, particularly in the area of tax/spend.  When Corbett signed off on another increase to the already outrageous gasoline tax, that was the end of his administration.  WTH -- if you have a tax and spend Republican governor, you might as well elect a Democrat next time.

As for domestic relations matters such as child custody a nd support -- Pennsylvania has always been behind every other state -- as it is in just about everything else.  During my career working for attorneys, there were a few who started out their careers with domestic relations cases.  I saw a lot of fathers treated unfairly.  It's that old mindset that when a couple splits, the children are always best off with the mother,  In many states, that is no longer true.  But it still is in Pennsylvania.  This state is always a century behind everyone else.
