If he's doing this to get votes, delaying the checks doesn't make sense.  Perhaps ego, but I thought the majority of the checks were going to be direct deposited?

Maybe just doesn't want to give the DEMS any credit, or perhaps these checks will be harder to replicate fraudulently?

Most people who filed a tax return last year will get direct deposit.  Its only the ones who didn't work who will notice Trumps name on the check.  Its ego, and I guess he's showing all the welfare people how good he is.
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

Good guess.

Good guess.

Even in a crisis its all about him.  His ratings on his briefings.  His name on the checks.  Ridiculous.

He's still the same guy who got elected with all the same flaws.

What is that about a leopard not changing his spots.

The spots are still there.....

I have a fundamental objection to pipelining the IRS into any bank account.
I guess I'm waiting on the paper..

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

If you can find a channel that isn't taken up with some liberal ranting all about them. :pop41:

    • I try my best ...
If the name Hussein Obama (may his name be in peace) I have no doubt the Leftist would be masturbating themselves thinking about what a GOD he was.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.

I think it's also Trump's ego that led him earlier this week to declare himself the sole authority who could return the entire nation to work, even after obviously deferring to governors the accountability to manage affairs in their own states.  In his maniacal narcissism he insists on being the Sole Munificent Benevolence who can bestow prosperity on the American people, and he apparently has a fetishistic need to see his own signature on the checks.

Having said that, I think it's also clear that Trump began taking effective action while the democrats and their media shills were still enthralled with their impeachment hallucination, and when he took action he was (predictably) derided again as a racist and xenophobe.  So perhaps Trump's ego is not the worst sin we see in this comedy-drama.

Personally I am more disgusted by the fiscally indiscriminate response to the economic shutdown.  Millions have been thrown out of work and need real support; businesses from coast to coast also need support so that those millions will have jobs to return to.  My household is blessed with an income far beyond the average and has so far lost not one penny of that income, yet I received today a direct deposit from the federal treasury.  I had not followed the specifics of the evolving policy, I was surprised to receive a deposit, and I find it ridiculous and irresponsible.

I would advocate instead an expanded and expedited Unemployment Insurance plan coupled with support for businesses to remain viable as they await the return of customers and employees, more support for small businesses and less for large.  But I see instead democrats calling for $2000 per person per month for incomes less than $130,000 per adult, until the unemployment rate matches the pre-COVID numbers.

Is a $20 trillion Federal debt really not enough?

I am wondering if Trump's move with the "sole authority" bid wasn't a finesse.
(Granted most people don't think of him in those terms).

Now, whenever the Governors open their States for business, whatever the results, from being too early or too late, or just right, whatever the fallout, it's on them, not on him.

He never would have had that sort of absolution from the Media, nor any political entity, and yet, now he does, and they insisted on it.

From here, that looks well  played.

@Smokin Joe you could be right....you could be right.

My *opinion* differs, but it’s only an opinion.  I don’t credit Trump with that capability for strategic thought, and I certainly don’t credit the media with that intellectual honesty.  They will *never* afford absolution to Trump no matter how clear gubernatorial accountability is made; in their reports the result will always be bad, and always Trump’s fault.

@HoustonSam
You know and I know that whether or not the press ever affords him that absolution, he does now have an affirmative defense, and the means to gig every one of the Governors he chooses for failure to perform if they deserve it. I'd just about bet most of the Dems will because hitting the Goldilocks zone on those decisions is going to be tough.

As for a question of whether this was intentional, I don't pretend to know, but at the insistence of Liberals and Conservatives alike, these are the results, and  for him, it couldn't have worked out better.

BTW, that's got to be a load off his shoulders in the midst of a truly unprecedented crisis. That can only help.
