President Trump reportedly pushed Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to pressure the Federal Reserve into taking action to combat the economic effects of the coronavirus.
During a Monday meeting at the White House, the president reportedly encouraged Mnuchin to coordinate with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to mitigate COVID-19's impact on the U.S. economy. Trump also reportedly voiced frustration that Powell should never have been appointed to his position.
As fears over economic decline grow, Trump tweeted about the actions of the federal reserve on Tuesday. "Our pathetic, slow moving Federal Reserve, headed by Jay Powell, who raised rates too fast and lowered too late, should get our Fed Rate down to the levels of our competitor nations. They now have as much as a two point advantage, with even bigger currency help. Also, stimulate!" Trump wrote.
