Petition creator: “Splitting off from an oppressive government and governing ourselves is the most American thing”

ROANOKE, Va. – A Campbell County man hopes to give voters in Virginia counties the option to secede and join West Virginia because of gun rights concerns.

Rick Boyer created a petition for a “Vexit,” or a Virginia exit inspired by the United Kingdom’s “Brexit” from the European Union.

“Splitting off from an oppressive government and governing ourselves is the most American thing," Boyer said. "That’s why America’s here.”

Boyer looked for signatures to his petition during a gun show at the Berglund Center in Roanoke on Saturday. He says the possibility of new gun laws in Virginia, as well as the movement in rural Virginia counties to establish themselves as Second Amendment sanctuaries, inspired his petition.

I can see where the political elites in Va may even be willing to go along with this. The truth is all they care about ruling is the bedroom and horse farm areas close to DC anyhow,and consider the natives to be backwards rubes that are more trouble than they are worth.

Yeah, and also would make the bluing VA bluer.  They'd love nothing better.

A honcho with the WV dem party wrote an editorial in Sunday's paper complaining about WV's governor and Falwell Jr. encouraging vexit. I  commented to the effect that dems shouldn't decry the prospect of a larger population.  After all, more people to tax.

It’s interesting that a significant number of people think “sanctuary cities” to protect illegal immigrants from enforcement of U.S. law are wonderful things — but sanctuary counties aimed at safeguarding a right of Americans enshrined in the Constitution are outrageous.   ...

   It is essentially the same strategy adopted by sanctuaries for illegal immigrants — except that Tyler County and others are standing up for rights guaranteed to citizens. There is a crucial difference.

Gun-control advocates can criticize Second Amendment sanctuaries all they want. But hey, the bottom line is that, well, liberals started the sanctuary movement.

WV does not really want this.... The existing governments would have to be destroyed before anything would changed..
