2nd US case of deadly China coronavirus confirmed; 63 others being monitored as it spreads across the world

The U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) has confirmed the second U.S. case of the deadly Wuhan coronavirus with a Chicago woman who recently returned from travels in Wuhan, China.

CDC officials confirmed the new case to CNBC on Friday. Around the country, 63 more people are reportedly being monitored for symptoms of the virus.

The Washington man was described as being in a “very healthy” condition despite contracting the virus.

Another incident on Wednesday night saw a passenger arriving at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) showing what was described as “disturbing symptoms” of coronavirus. The LAX traveller in question was arriving on a flight from Mexico City and the case has not yet been confirmed as an instance of coronavirus.

Case of coronavirus confirmed in Orange County; officials call risk of transmission ‘low’

The OC Health Care Agency said it received confirmation from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Saturday  evening that an Orange County case has tested positive for the coronavirus that appears to have spread from China.

The patient, a “traveler from Wuhan, China, has been in contact with the HCA and was provided guidance in order to reduce exposure to the public while awaiting laboratory confirmation from the CDC. The individual has now been transported to a local hospital and is in isolation in good condition,” the HCA said in a statement.

The Orange County agency said it, in consultation with the CDC and the state Department of Public Health, is following up with all people who have had close contact with the patient.

I did a bit of reading a few years back, it started among the Air Corps in France just as the war ended. My uncle, great-grandma's brother was there and died from it.

Had to be terrible knowing your family member made it thru the war only to be taken down by the worst epidemic in a century or more.

- There is a virus research lab in Wuhan. I'm guessing they had lax controls because they were warned that a virus could escape their lab:

- China has quarantined 50 million people and a number of major cities, and the govt is calling the situation grave:

- They just celebrated the Chinese New Year so many people were traveling. At least an estimated 210K vehicles escaped Wuhan before the quarantine, some estimates are several million people total.

- It's far more dire in Wuhan that what the govt admits is the claim of a number of hospital workers have posted online in social media.

- The Chinese health minister stated incubation is as long as two weeks and it is contagious before symptoms manifest:
