White House proposes 500% increase in cost of getting immigration records

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Tracing your roots is about to be a lot more expensive if the Trump Administration passes proposed rate increases for historical documents.
In November, the Department of Homeland Security announced rulemaking adjustment proposals for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' Immigration Examinations Fee Account schedule. What once cost between $40 and $50 could soon cost upwards of $600.
"I don't know of any other agency or archive that charges that kind of money to obtain a copy of a historical document,†said Rich Venezia.
