Trump says cost of running Guantanamo is 'crazy'
By Morgan Chalfant and Brett Samuels - 09/19/19 08:04 AM EDT

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE -- President Trump on Wednesday expressed unease over the cost of detaining prisoners at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base and said that his administration is reviewing the matter.

“I think it’s crazy. It costs a fortune to operate it and I think it’s crazy,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One while returning to Washington, D.C. from California.

The New York Times reported earlier this week that it cost more than $540 million – roughly $13 million per detainee – to keep the U.S. military prison at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, running last year. The facility currently holds 40 prisoners, including suspects in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

When asked about the cost Wednesday, Trump said, “we’re looking into that.”

Trump has previously been an advocate for keeping the prison open, at one point during the campaign pledging to fill the prison with “some bad dudes.”

The cost of running Guantanamo is "crazy" -- what do you propose -- closing it and letting all the terrorists imprisoned there free?  Charge their homeland's rent for housing them there.

Take away their perks.

That's really where a lot of the cost comes in...it's all the summer camp stuff the Obama Administration and the lawyers for these scumbags insisted on providing for the terrorists.

Outrageous.  All they need is some pork sandwiches and a Bible.

And they could raise the pigs on site.  That would save some money.   Chickens and pigs.  Free Bibles.

AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.
