2020 Democratic presidential long shot John Delaney claimed that the fires that have engulfed the Amazon rainforest are a result of President Trump's trade war with China.

Brazil's National Space Research Institute reported that the number of fires has risen 85% to more than 77,000 total fires in the last year, with about half of them in the Amazon region.

Delaney discussed the Amazon blaze and other issues during an Tuesday appearance on Fox News' Outnumbered Overtime.

Oh, FFS. American grain sells because it is high quality. If there is a trade war, the Brazilians aren't going to match that quality overnight.

The Amazon Basin, despite all the media howling, is having about the average number of wildfires this year, not some huge increase.

From https://beforeitsnews.com/science-and-technology/2019/08/nasa-amazon-wildfire-activity-slightly-below-average-this-year-2963331.html

We get:

Meanwhile, US space agency Nasa said that overall fire activity in the Amazon basin was slightly below average this year.

The agency said that while activity had increased in Amazonas and Rondonia, it had decreased in the states of Mato Grosso and Pará.

It was earlier reported that a blackout on Monday in the city of São Paulo - more than 2,700km (1,700 miles) away - had been caused by smoke from the Amazon fires.

But some meteorologists say the smoke came from major fires burning in Paraguay, which is much closer to the city and not in the Amazon region.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
