Muslim Brotherhood are feared to come to power over there, Sudan borders Egypt, Libya borders Egypt. Same story. Whether Gamel Nasser is a "villain of history", I don't know but Gamel Nasser talked about how, way back in 1953, the MB wanted all women to wear the hijab, so Islamic radicalism was apparently less back then and Nasser was fervently against them.
