The remains of a Texas soldier killed during the Korean War have been identified and are scheduled to be buried next month in South Texas.
U.S. military officials announced Monday that the remains of 18-year-old Army Pfc. Herschel M. Riggs of Rio Grande City were identified in March.
Remains retrieved in October 1950 were later buried at the National Memorial of the Pacific in Honolulu. The remains were disinterred in 2017 and officials using DNA, dental and other analyses confirmed they were those of Riggs.
